The Music Of Heroes Del Silencio
Heroes del Silencio was a Spanish rock band that formed in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. The band played between the years of 1984 and 1996 with a brief reunion tour in 2007. In total, the band was part of 17 different albums. Five of the albums were official studio albums, six of them were live concert albums, and the final six were compilation albums. Seven of those albums received platinum sales certifications in various countries.
The Band Is Formed
When the band first formed in 1984 it went by the name Zumo de Vidrio. The band was very different at this time and consisted of three family members; Juan Valdivia, Pedro Valdivia, and Javier Valdivia. A short time later the band would take a fourth member, Enrique Bunbury, as a bass player. However, after the band’s founder, Juan Valdivia, heard Enrique singing a song it was decided that he would be the lead vocalist of the band.
The four-member band would play very small gigs over the following year. In 1985 it was decided that the name of the band should be changed. It was then that they adopted Heroes del Silencio. Their band would focus on finding public locations where they could play their music for anyone to hear while making demo recordings when possible.
Sometime in the next year, the band entered a large music contest that was held in Salamanca. They didn’t win the contest, but they landed second place and grabbed the attention of a producer who had attended. The producer was Gustavo Montesano, who worked for EMI. Gustavo decided to watch the band play again at a later date and once again enjoyed the show. He decided then to sign the band to the EMI label.
The First Albums Are Released
The band would finally release their first studio EP in 1987, titled Heroes de Leyenda. The EP sold an impressive 30,000 copies and built the foundation for their fan base. One year later they released a second album called El Mar No Cesa, which sold 100,000 copies, went platinum on the Spanish Music Charts, and included several hit songs. This album included one of the band’s first major hits with the public, Mar Adentro.
In 1989, the band would take part in a large tour supporting the release of El Mar No Cesa. They also used this time to record their first live concert album, En Directo. It contained five tracks, most of which were live versions of the songs found on the previous studio album. The band was quickly becoming a household name in Spanish territories.
Their third studio album was released in 1990. It was entitled Senderos de Traicion and it went platinum three times on the Spanish Music Charts. It also went platinum in Germany and in Switzerland. The album sold more than 400,000 copies in Spain during the first weeks of its launch. It would eventually sell more than 2 million copies.
Final Studio Albums
The fourth studio album was El Espiritu del Vino and it sold more than 600,000 copies. Many claim that this was the band’s most important album because it was played throughout American and gained the band a lot of popularity in the country. The album also went platinum in Spain and in Switzerland. Shortly after releasing this album the band took on a fifth member, Alan Boguslavsky.
The final studio album was entitled Avalancha and was released in 1995. As with all of their previous studio albums it received platinum status on the Spanish Albums Charts. The band split in the following year and would never record another studio album. They did; however, reunite for a tour in 2007 and released an accompanying live concert tour entitled Tour 2007.
